The Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB) have signed Max Muncy to a contract extension.
The Dodgers announced on Wednesday that they have signed Muncy to a two-year extension worth $24 million. The deal also includes a club option for one more year in 2026 for a $10 million payment by the Dodgers.굿모닝토토 주소
Muncy previously signed with the Dodgers last winter for $13.5 million in salary for 2023. He also agreed to a team option for 2024. It was worth $10 million in salary and up to $4 million in incentives. The Dodgers added one more extension to keep Muncy with them through 2025.
According to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, “Muncy has made it clear that he wants to continue playing for the Dodgers, even if it means accepting less money than he could get on the market. Barring a trade, Muncy will be the Dodgers’ center fielder for the next two seasons.”
Muncy broke into the big leagues in 2015 with the Oakland Athletics. He spent time as a backup. After reaching free agency, he was traded and has been with the Dodgers since 2018. In his six seasons until this year, he had a .230 batting average but 175 home runs and 472 RBIs. His power and RBI production made him a mainstay in the lineup. He was named an All-Star in 2019 and 2021.
This season, he batted just .212 (102-for-482) in 135 games. However, he added 36 home runs and 105 RBIs. He finished tied for eighth in the National League in home runs and eighth in RBIs. He led the team in RBIs with Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. Defensively, he played 1052 innings at third base and made 16 errors.
Locally, the Dodgers’ signing of Muncy to an extension is the start of a busy offseason. According to MLB.com, “The Dodgers are going to be aggressive this winter. “The Dodgers are looking to bolster their offense and will be in the market for Shohei Ohtani. It’s going to be a busy offseason.”
The Dodgers, meanwhile, reached the 100-win plateau this year, winning exactly 62 games and taking first place in the National League West. However, they were swept in three games by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series (NLDS – best-of-five) to fall short.
Even in 2021, when the Dodgers won 106 games, they lost to the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) in seven games. Even last year, when they boasted 111 wins, they were swept by the San Diego Padres in the NLDS. This year, they were swept by Arizona in the Wild Card Series.
Despite the disappointing results, the Dodgers have decided to stick with manager Dave Roberts through the 2024 season. Roberts, who has led the Dodgers since 2016, will initially manage the team for nine years through next year. The Dodgers previously extended Roberts’ contract through 2025 in March 2022.
